Tips for Planning Your March Trip to Galveston
Three cheers for Spring. There’s nothing better than Spring Break in Galveston. The month of March is synonymous with Spring Break fun on the island. If you’re wondering what to do and where to go on Galveston Island during your Spring Break visit, here are our suggestions:
Schlitterbahn Galveston Reopens for Spring
Although most visitors come to Galveston Island for the
beach, Schlitterbahn Galveston Waterpark should be on your list for Spring
Break. This award-winning waterpark reopens on Saturday, March 12, and is open
daily through Sunday, March 20. After March 20, the park is open on weekends
until Memorial Weekend. Check their website for hours and tickets.
Artist Boat Kayak Tours Resume
Have you or your children ever experienced seeing a coastal
preserve by kayak? Artist Boat resumes its Coastal Heritage Preserve Tours on
Tuesday, March 15 for spring break. After spring break, Artist Boat schedules
tours on weekends. Book your spot in advance for this memorable and educational
experience.
New Movies at Moody Gardens
While Moody
Gardens is known for its Aquarium Pyramid and Rainforest Pyramid,
you’ll also love the movies at its 3D and 4D Theaters. New films at Moody
Gardens 3D Theater are Sea Lions 3D, Wings Over
Water 3D, and Tornado Alley 3D. The 4D Special FX
Theater features Mowgli 4D. See film descriptions and

Galveston Island Historic Pleasure Pier, 2501 Seawall
Imagine 16 rides, a midway, food, and a view. You can
purchase an all-day pass or tickets to specific rides at the Pleasure Pier. The pier opens at 11
a.m. the week of March 14 so you’ll have all day to enjoy the fun. Also, check
out the 5D Theater across the street. Shark Attack and Mysterious
Underworld are a ton of fun.
Shows at The Grand 1894 Opera House
You may recognize some names and shows featured at The Grand 1894 Opera House in
March. And, if it doesn’t look familiar, check the website for more details.
This historic theater is an incredible venue for live performances.

Attention music lovers! You must plan on purchasing tickets
to one of Galveston’s best-kept secrets, Old Quarter Acoustic Cafe, 413 20th
Street. Old Quarter is a listening venue so go for the music, not socializing.
It’s off the beaten path but still in the Postoffice Street District.

Galveston Symphony Orchestra at The Grand 1894 Opera House
Now for the classical music lovers, the Galveston Symphony
Orchestra performs on Sunday, March 13, at The Grand 1894 Opera House, 2020
Postoffice. This concert entitled Masterworks II: Passions features
Wagner: Overture to “Die Meistersinger;” Korngold: Violin Concerto (Stella Chen, violin); and Shostakovich:
Symphony 1. This concert is a fast, fun driving symphony. Galveston
Symphony Orchestra was founded in 1979 and is under the musical direction of
Trond Saeverud.
Where to Shop and Where to Eat
Every trip to Galveston should include time for shopping and
dining. Here are some shops that should be on your list.
Kites Unlimited, 8910 Seawall
There’s nothing quite like flying a kite on the beach during
spring break. So make sure to make a stop at Kites Unlimited. The shop offers a
colossal variety of kites to help get you started.
Murdochs, 2215 Seawall
Visitors have shopped at Murdochs since 1910. This gift shop
offers everything you need to enjoy and remember a beach vacation. You’ll also
love the Adirondak chairs in the breezeway, where you can enjoy a cold drink
and the sound of the waves.
Bennos Cajun Seawood, 1212 Seawall
Crawfish anyone? Bennos is another Galveston tradition for
visitors. Choose from fish, shrimp, crawfish, oysters, and crab dinners. Plus,
their boat-shaped patio is a fun spot to eat and enjoy the view.
Marios Seawall Italian and Pizzeria, 628 Seawall
Blvd.
Who doesn’t love pizza? This family-owned pizzeria is a must
and it’s right on the seawall. Their outdoor patio is a fun spot to enjoy the
sunshine and the food. Plus, make sure you treat yourself to the house-made
gelato.
The Spot, 3204 Seawall
This restaurant is a burger lover’s dream. But there’s more.
There are five venues in this location if you want an adult beverage. The
burgers, French fries, and onion rings are incredible. And, they also serve locally-made
Hey Mikey’s Ice Cream.
And, if you’re looking for a cool treat after the
beach, try Orange Leaf Frozen Yogurt, 6606 Seawall, Rita’s
Italian Ice and Frozen Custard, 6026 Seawall, Ben &
Jerry’s, 4408 Seawall, and Bahama Buck’s, 500 Seawall
Blvd.
