Holiday Events Across the Island
No matter what day of the week brings you to Galveston, Moody Gardens Holiday in the Gardens will put you in the holiday spirit. Their annual Festival of Lights is open daily from 4 to 10 p.m. Nov. 20 thru Jan. 2 and features more than a million lights on a mile-long pathway. Plus, their Cirque Joyeux Dinner & Show, scheduled Dec. 17 thru Dec. 30, is an added bonus. The show features acrobats, aerialists, cats and more. Have you ever bumped into the Ghost of Christmas Past or Ebenezer Scrooge on the street? Well, during Dickens on The Strand there is a good likelihood you’ll see these famous Charles Dickens characters as well as hundreds of people dressed in their favorite Victorian or Steampunk garb. The 48th Annual Dickens on The Strand is Friday, Dec. 3 thru Sunday, Dec. 5. Attendees in Victorian costumes may purchase their half price ticket at the gate.
As part of Dickens on the Strand weekend, the Galveston Historical Foundation also hosts Dickens After Dark, Holiday Handbell Concerts, The Dickens Soiree at Bishop’s Palace, Salute to Sunset at the Texas Seaport Museum, A Dickensian Breakfast at Ashton Villa, St. Arnold’s Strand Walking Tours, Tea with the Captain’s Wife, and The Dickens Dash.
Step back in time for the holidays with a tour through Galveston’s Historic House Museums. Make a stop at the 1895 Moody Mansion and Museum, 2618 Broadway, and 1892 Bishop’s Palace, 1402 Broadway, which are decked out for the holidays. Another worthy stop is The Bryan Museum, 1315 21st Street.
