Experience Galveston birding at its best at FeatherFest!
FeatherFest 2021
FeatherFest is the huge birding event that takes place annually on Galveston Island. This year it’s being held April 15-18. So pack your bags and binoculars and head on down to the island!
Many different species of birds call Galveston home, but the island is also the perfect location for so many other birds to stop and rest during their long, migrating journey. That’s why this time of year in Galveston can be especially fun for hardcore bird-watchers and casual nature-enjoyers alike.
Bird-watching in Galveston is usually really extraordinary. There are already dozens of local birds to see year-round that you won’t really see more inland.
If you’re just getting into birding, or would like to, head on over to Galveston Island State Park. You’ll get to see some of the best of Galveston’s nature and there’s plenty of open space and feathered friends to see.
Also, if you head East down Galveston Seawall Blvd. past Galveston’s Beachtown Community, you’ll find a good stretch of wetlands where you might spot some interesting birds. Over there you’ll also find the East End Lagoon Nature Park.
You can sign up for a birding field trip for the FeatherFest event, and if you’re able to snap some good photos of any birds on the island, be sure to enter the FeatherFest Photo Contest!
