Experience the best of Galveston!

Galveston Attractions in Three Days

As three-day weekends become the new “annual vacation,” it can feel discouraging. How are you going to see all of the best Galveston attractions with only three days in which to do it? Before you get too discouraged, however, we think it can be done, even in the big state of Texas. And so, we at Ryson Vacation Rentals have created this guide on how to see the best Galveston attractions in three days; all you need to do is let go of your worries and have fun!

Day 1: Which Way to Galveston Beach?

Ok, you’ve been waiting all year to sink your toes in the sand, so your first day will revolve around Galveston beach. But first, let’s get breakfast! It’s love at first bite when you visit the Mosquito Café at 628 14th Street. Offering classic favorites such as their Plain Ol’ Breakfast (eggs, breakfast meats, potatoes or grits, and toast), your day of Galveston adventures will be well-fueled when you start here. And because you should wait at least an hour before entering the water, we’re going to lead you to the 1886 Bishop’s Palace; considered one of America’s top 100 most important buildings, tours begin at 10 AM and the secrets revealed will make you happy you chose to begin this adventure into the past. Your afternoon is free to dig your toes in the sand, frolic in the waves, and spending time hunting for souvenirs on the boardwalk of East Beach. Don’t forget your sunscreen!

Day 2: Ahoy There, Mateys!

There will be no lollygagging in bed, no matter how comfortable said bed is, for today we are heading for the seas and the beautiful vessels that skim across the waters. The 1877 Tall Ship Elissa is the star of the Texas Seaport Museum at 220 Harborside Drive; she took her maiden journey all the way back in 1877, and while she no longer hauls freight across the stormy seas, she still can be found majestically sailing around the Gulf. After a quick lunch of hushpuppies and gumbo at Shrimp N Stuff (3901 Avenue O), it’s back to the seas for an exploration of the Ocean Star Offshore Drilling Rig and Museum at 2002 Wharf Road. Offshore drilling is a big deal here in the land of “Texas Tea,” and this informative and entertaining museum lets you in on the behind the scenes activities of the drilling rigs. Finally, a sunset cruise of Galveston Harbor offered by Galveston Water Adventures is the perfect way to end another perfect day in Texas; pack a bottle of champagne and your favorite snacks and enjoy a romantic cruise as the sun sets over the horizon.

Day 3: No One Ever Wants to Leave

It’s your last day in paradise, but we don’t want to talk about that. Instead, let’s concentrate on the adventures that lie ahead! On day three, we will explore the Historic Strand District and perfect the hunt for souvenirs. The Marketplace at the Peanut Butter Warehouse is our first destination! Offering more than just peanut butter (although you will find fresh ground peanut butter at the Coffee Shop), this marketplace is home to over 30 different vendors selling everything from antiques to art work to colorful seahorses that hang on your walls. Be sure to stop in 3 Doors Down Bar for a glass of wine, a cold beer, and some live music on the weekends. Lunch at the Original Mexican Café at 1401 Market Street will help fuel your engine for more beach time in the afternoon but try to keep it light; dinner tonight promises to be an epicurean adventure you will never forget! Dinner at Number 13 Prime Steak and Seafood (7809 Broadway Street) s the most awesome way we can think of to say farewell to our fair city! Offering unique dishes such as the King Crab and Caviar Cobb Salad, Country Quail and Pickles Appetizer, raw oysters, perfectly cooked steaks, and shrimp and grits, there will be no problem finding a dish that will appeal to the picky eaters in your dining party!
