Golfing in Galveston
There’s no better place for a round of golf than Galveston Island. The sub-tropical temperatures and the mild ocean breezes combine to create the perfect backdrop for taking in eighteen holes at either of Galveston’s two full-size courses. Come enjoy golfing in Galveston.
The public course is the Moody Gardens Golf Course, located just west of Schlitterbahn Water Park. This course was recently the beneficiary of a multi-million renovation by Jacobsen Hardy Design, a prestigious course architect which helped raise the course into the first class. Harmoniously incorporating the natural terrain and specifically designed to withstand the local elements of the ocean, the course is a perfect combination of nature and luxury. The tropical feel is enhanced by the nearly 500 palm trees which grace the contours and curves of the course, and both the cart paths and the clubhouse have also been completely renovated.
Given its accessibility and the proximity of many other Galveston Island attractions, the Moody Gardens Golf Course is sure to satisfy golfers of all ages and experience. In fact, the course was recently given a status of Recommended by TripAdvisor and was ranked by GolfNow as one of the top three courses in the Greater Houston area.
Another full-size course can be found at Galveston Country Club, which is the oldest country club in Texas. It is also one of the most beautiful. Nestled along the shores of Galveston Bay, the club’s course is perfectly maintained and manicured, using both palm trees and natural terrain to pleasing effect. The course was renovated in 2003 and the nearby clubhouse was renovated in 2008.
Even though the Galveston Country Club is a private club, members of the public are welcome to play the course at seasonal rates. In addition, Ryson Vacation Rentals can provide their customers with guest-passes, which will ensure access to the course. Contact Ryson Vacation Rentals at (409) 740-1600 for details.
With these two courses, visitors to Galveston Island don’t have to miss a good day of golf just because they are away from home, and the shores of Galveston Bay are the perfect place to tee off.
