Find the Hidden Gems in Galveston, Texas
Things to Do to Avoid the Crowds
It’s no doubt that destinations like Galveston can be really
busy this time of year. The summer heat brings in a combination of beach goers,
family gatherings, and many different types of events. As we all try to get
used to some changes that have been happening over the past few months
regarding COVID-19 and social/physical distancing, many are pursuing fun things
to do that don’t necessarily involve being in crowded areas. The good news is
that there are plenty of things you or your family can do to avoid crowds in
Galveston.
Enjoy the Wildlife
Galveston offers a lot when it comes to enjoying
nature. From catching a glimpse of dolphins, to bird
watching, to fishing,
Galveston has so much for nature and wildlife lovers. There is a state park right on the island, Seawolf
Park on Pelican Island just north of Galveston Island, and the
East End Lagoon, all with amazing views.
You can even enjoy some tropical and exotic fish in a
less-outdoorsy setting. Galveston’s amazing resort, Moody
Gardens, has an aquarium in one of its iconic pyramids. Not to mention
a rainforest of incredible animals and plants for
up-close and interactive experiences.
Visit a Museum
While museums can be busy, it is easier to separate yourself
from others compared to other crowded locations. Galveston has many museums,
so it’s likely at least one will pique your interest.
The Bryan Museum is perfect for history buffs or those
looking to learn a little something about Texas and the American West that you
may not have known before.
For train-enthusiasts and casual museum-goers alike,
the Railroad Museum is a great experience for everyone.
With temporary limited capacity, this destination won’t be overly crowded.
The Seaport Museum features the 1877
Tall Ship Elissa, an incredible, huge, beautifully preserved ship and
landmark that is famous to Galveston.
Hang Out on the Beach
The beach is the biggest draw to Galveston, so we’d be lying
if we said that it’s never crowded there. However, most beaches still have
plenty of space to practice social/physical distancing, even during the busy
season. Remember to keep at least 6 feet from the next group, so you can safely
enjoy the sand and beach air.
Something you may not know is that there are over 30 miles
of beaches in Galveston! There are some not-so-well-known beaches on the West
End of the island that may give you more of a secluded feel than the others. We
have many vacation rentals that are steps away from the beach
that would make the experience that much more safe and enjoyable.
