Work Where You Play

Plan a Galveston fall getaway!

Work Where You Play

If you’re working remotely and still homeschooling your children, why not make the most of it and “work where you play.” Take your home office from your house to a vacation rental in Galveston and plan a work-cation. Even if you’re working, it’s always more enjoyable with a view of the water and taking a work or study break by getting some sand between your toes with a walk on the beach.

As far as “field trip” ideas for the kids, virtually or in-person, check out the following suggestions to entertain your family:

  • Artist Boat offers a little art and science to your kayaking experience. Of course, this is something you do in person. Their Eco-Art Adventure Tours in the Coastal Heritage Preserve on the island’s west end offers a watercolor class and science experiments. It’s a ton of fun and we promise the kids will love it. Tip: If you need to burn some extra energy during “recess,” then go for a bike ride on the Seawall and look for the Project SIT (Seawall Interpretive Trail) benches spearheaded by Artist Boat. Check with our Concierge about renting Galveston beach cruisers.
  • The Bryan Museum is one of those “must-do” Galveston museums for history lovers. Their Battle of San Jacinto Diorama features 2,000 painted soldiers. If you want to take a history lesson virtually, they’ve launched a Hands-on History web series hosted by historian and reenactor Dennis Jones.
  • Galveston Historical Foundation has created a Galveston History Online Lecture Series. The lectures cover various topics, including architecture, interviews with historians and local authors, and more. Plus, GHF’s most popular attractions like Bishop’s Palace, Historic Harbor Tour, and Pier 21 Theater are open.
  • Moody Gardens offers a Learn Live! program series weekdays at the complex in September. Tickets must be pre-purchased and are limited. They provide options for Ages 3-5 and all ages. For children interested in science, nature, marine life, etc., you’ll love spending time at Moody Gardens. Who doesn’t love penguins? Ryson Vacation Rentals offers discounted tickets to Moody Gardens. Order through our Gulf Coast Concierge service.

After a long day of work and school, celebrate with a bonfire on the beach and enjoy s’ mores, tiki torches, chairs, cornhole, and speakers for your music. We’ll make all the arrangements.

Make the most of these work where you play ideas and enjoy your next getaway in Galveston. Ryson Vacation Rentals offers more than 250 properties across the island that provide plenty of reasons to visit Galveston this year. If you need help planning your visit, Gulf Coast Concierge can assist.
